Ego Home Fabrics Guide

Release time:2015-01-06 17:33

Our selected fabrics are made from natural or synthetic fibers. We choose our fabrics based on

stringent quality requirements and we know how important it is that ease of cleaning and durability

are the very best.

The fabric that is best for your home is determined by your requirements. When used, furniture fabrics

will stretch and acquire a "patina", just like with leather.

You can preserve its appearance by regularly changing your favorite seat to ensure more uniform

fabric and cushion wear. However, fabric will inevitably stretch and wear through use.

We recommend

Furniture fabric will not be at its best if left in direct sunlight. Some fabrics fade faster than others. But

in general, fabric made from artificial fiber and light colors will fade the least. If you therefore need a

sofa that will stand in plenty of sunlight, then synthetic fiber will be a better choice that than natural

fiber. Ego Home recommends that you do not select a color fastness below 4 (scale from 1-8).

In the case of hard wear and tear, abrasion resistance (Martindale) should exceed 20,000, while under

normal circumstances, an abrasion resistance of 10,000 or more is enough. The abrasion resistance of

our selected fabrics varies from 20,000 up to 60,000 Martindale. Fabrics with a Martindale exceeding

60,000 are suitable for public use.

Cleaning furniture upholstery

There are cleaners who provide special cleaning of furniture upholstery. Normal maintenance and

cleaning is typically something you can manage yourself, using specific care products.

When you initially use your furniture, the fabric will be relatively taut. As you use it, the fabric and

the thin cotton layer underneath the fabric will quickly stretch, which can result in crimples in the

fabric. This usually occurs within the first month, depending on how the furniture is used.

Afterwards, the fabric will stretch only slightly more.

The furniture should be lightly "brushed" over with the hand so as to redistribute the excess

material on the cushion. These wrinkles are perfectly normal and are not an indication of defective

fabric or quality.

Pilling / pilling:

All fabrics have a tendency to pilling, it is measured in a scale Pilling 1-5, 1 = less good 5 = good.

Fade / bleach:

Fade scale goes from 1-8. All fabrics are bleached by sunlight. Most of our fabrics are between 4-5 which are suitable for indoor use, Fabrics that have 6-8 is more common for outdoor use.

Martindale / Abrasion:

Martindale is a scale to measure a fabric wear resistance. The value says something about the durability of the fabric. Home environment is between 12,000 to 60,000 yards. For upholstery Sofas, we recommend that have a value of 25,000 yards.

Filling:

Upholstery sofas generally have some kind of foam material in the seat, which from the beginning has been a very solid comfort and also may feel a little uneven from seat to seat. After some time, it will both soften and smooth out and slouch slightly.

When it comes to stuffing containing dissolved padding such as crushed foam, ball fiber, feather, etc. These materials need continuous care in the form of that "puffs" to cushion and thus get air into the material, which is a major maintenance of such kind of cushions.

Textiles with bangs

Chenille, velvet or plush, Viscose may have a tendency to have indentations when the pile settles down and there is an impression that the looks worn out, this is normal for this type of fabric. The fabric can also vary in several different shades depending on the light.

Caring for Upholstery fabric sofas:

• Air and vacuum your sofa regularly, as dirt causes wear.

• Always treat stains immediately and use professional help if necessary.

• Do not place your sofa in direct sunlight or near a heat source. It can cause stains and faded fabric. It should be at least 20 cm space between the sofa and the heat source, longer distance if there is a fireplace or stove.

The sofa must be kept at normal room temperature, Humidity and cold can damage the furniture.

Always use felt pads to the legs to protect your floor.

Remember to:

Contact a specialist if you are unsure of how to treat a possible stain.

If possible, work the stain from the back of the fabric. Avoid to rub on the stain.

To get an even wear on the sofa, you should switch places of cushions and pillows regularly.
